I really like cats. Oh, I like dogs as well, but cats – so mysterious, beautiful and independent, a cat is always her own boss. So I thought I’d begin a new series – a sporadic one, but a series nonetheless: Cats of the world. First out are these cool Kuwaiti cats.
Going through photos from my jaunt through bits of the Arabian Peninsula last autumn, I stumbled over these. Cats are such photogenic creatures. Even when rummaging through the rubbish…
… or attacking a fish its own size:
In Kuwait’s wonderful old souq, where everything is for sale, from animal parts I’d never consider eating – to designer label keffiyeh (head scarves a la Yassir Arafat), one cat guarded the goods, while the other just lounged about.
Finally, a cat in camouflage:
Yep, a dog rooting through the rubbish just doesn’t have the same class!
Off topic a bit – my cat has learned to open cupboard doors, even ones tightly shut! Nothing is safe…
Hi Sophie, love the idea of cats here as I have one myself. A Siamese-mix-local-Malaysian female who is really spoiled by my partner. Eats high grade cat chips and boiled chicken breast… ouch.
Nice stuff here and love the last camo-cat pic!

Great idea for a series. I love cats! By the way, here in Tallinn there’s a Cat’s Well – do you know about it?
Cat lovers all around the world will be visiting. I told 10,000,000 of htem about this just a few minutes ago !
Cheers,
Mike
For once I’m not with you. Cat hair gives me asthma, but I understand cat lovers. Tweeted, dinged and linged anyway. What’s a bit of suffocation among friends!

Cats are wonderful if fed well and not flea ridden. Some of these strays looks a bit sad.
I adopted a cat from Kuwait who was abandoned in a shelter in NYC by a flight atendant. I love this cat so much – but he is really strange. He loves to yell out the window
